Beetle bums and anger bombs

The bombardier beetle's backdoor booms show kids how to deal with their anger in a healthy way.
Beetle bums and anger bombs
Excuse me!
Careless words stab like a sword, but wise words bring healing – Proverbs 12:18

Inside the body of a bombardier beetle are a series of mysterious chambers. When the beetle is threatened, powerful chemicals in the chambers start to mix...

The pressure builds and builds, until suddenly, burning hot sticky liquid literally explodes out of its bum!

The horrible smelling substance hurtles out of the beetle’s rear end in super-fast pulses at over five hundred times per second. Any bird or lizard unwise enough to try for a bite of beetle gets covered in stinky burning goo and can be seriously hurt. (I would call that a very bad day indeed!)

When we feel threatened, frustrated, or annoyed, it can feel like an uncontrollable pressure is building up inside of us, just like the bombardier beetle. Like if the person annoying us doesn’t back off, we might just explode at them too!
